The Emigrant's Guide: Buying Property in Cape Verde Remotely

For many Cape Verdeans abroad, buying a home in Cape Verde is a life project — but distance raises legitimate questions. This guide explains how remote buying works.

Can I buy without travelling?

Yes. With a power of attorney issued at a Cape Verdean consulate in your country of residence (or apostilled), a representative can sign the promissory contract and deed on your behalf. It's the most common method for emigrants who can't handle the whole process in person.

How do property viewings work?

Detailed photos and videos replace the first in-person visit, and video-call viewings let you ask questions in real time with a local representative. Most diaspora buyers visit the property in person only after the deed is signed, or sometimes before, if they prefer.

Documents you'll need

  • A Cape Verdean ID or passport

  • A Cape Verdean tax number (obtainable through a representative)

  • Proof of income, if seeking financing

  • A consular or apostilled power of attorney, for remote purchases

Financing for the diaspora

Several Cape Verdean banks have dedicated diaspora mortgage lines, accepting foreign income, usually up to 70-80% of the property value. With the escudo pegged to the euro (1 € = 110.265 CVE), euro earners face no currency risk.

Not ready to move back yet?

Buying now and renting the property out until you decide to return is a common option among the diaspora. Imobisol also offers remote rental management support for emigrant owners.
